Behind every Bryan College diploma is a story of determination, growth, and hard work, and Salisha Dookran’s story is no exception.
Salisha made the decision to return to school in 2020 and needed something she could balance with her personal life, which was one of the top reasons she chose Bryan College’s online Medical Office Assistant program. She said the flexibility of learning online was unmatched.
Read below, in her own words, the experience she had at Bryan College.
Dear Bryan College Team,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to share my experience with Bryan College as I near the completion of my Medical Office Assistant Diploma program. Reflecting on my journey, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to study at your institution, and I would like to take a moment to express my thoughts, especially as a single parent facing daily health challenges.
When I was deciding on a college back in 2020, I was uncertain about which path to take. Four years later, I decided to take a leap of faith and enroll in the program. The colleges I had inquired about were calling to see if I was still interested, yet Bryan College had my heart from the moment I first inquired about the Medical Office Assistant program in 2020.
The professionalism and warmth I felt from the very beginning reassured me that this was the right choice for me, but the start date did not align with my situation at the time. This February, after careful thought and consideration and praying for guidance in choosing the right college, the very next day, I received a call from Gabriella, whom I had initially spoken to four years ago during my inquiry and search for a college, informing me that there was a program starting in April, and if I was still interested. Immediately, I knew this was my sign and answer from God, and any minor doubts I had just faded away.
When I first decided to enroll in the program, I wasn’t sure I would be able to complete it. As a single parent of two young children, I have had to navigate numerous challenges, including frequent trips to the emergency room due to my health issues. On top of that, managing my condition often requires me to take pain medication just to be able to sit through classes and focus on my studies. There were times when I felt as though I was struggling just to keep up, and I often had to act as though everything was fine, even when I didn’t feel that way at all.
Despite all of these challenges, I decided to take it one day at a time. There were many moments when I felt like giving up, but I chose not to. I persevered, and with the support and encouragement from Bryan College, I’m proud to be so close to completing my diploma. The strength I found within myself to keep going was made possible because of the understanding and guidance I received from your team.
Throughout my time here, my overall experience has been incredible. I have learned so much, and the support I’ve received from my peers and instructors has been invaluable. I’ve had the privilege of making lasting connections, and I will always cherish the friendships I’ve made. My instructors, Carla Morgan and Enza Nikalaidis, were beyond exceptional, providing guidance and mentorship that have truly made a difference in my journey.
That being said, there are a few areas where minor improvements could enhance the student experience. While my instructors have been generally supportive, there could be more timely communication regarding assignment feedback and resubmissions, especially when it comes to marking assignments. During the accounting course, I would have liked to know where I went wrong so I could have reviewed and tried to master it. A clearer explanation of assignments helps students better understand expectations and achieve their full potential. These are small tweaks, but they could make a big difference in streamlining the learning process.
Despite these minor hiccups, I can genuinely say my time at Bryan College has been life- changing. As I approach the finish line of this program, I find myself feeling a mix of excitement and bittersweet emotion. I’ve grown so much not only academically but personally as well.
The positive impact that Bryan College has had on my life has inspired me to pursue a future role as an Instructor at your institution. I am deeply passionate about the field and want to give back by helping future students achieve the same success that I have. I will also wholeheartedly recommend Bryan College to anyone looking to start a new career. It has been an amazing experience, and I’m confident that others will benefit from the same opportunity.
Thank you for providing such a transformative experience, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
Sincerely,
Salisha Dookran
